KOGMENTO

Is a system for controlling lights, cameras and alarm which also acts as a DVR and a Media Centre linking every TV in the house. The system is built on top of Ubuntu operating system.

Kogmento system is based on the client/server architecture. The server includes the primary client application which is fully configurable and used for allowing access to slave client applications running from android devices. Communication between devices is fully encrypted. Scheduled tasks, areas with lights, alarm zones and IP cameras are configured through the main interface.

Main interface is viewable from any LCD/Plasma/LED TV linked to the system in the house. It can link up to 8 TVs and stream the content. The main interface can be used for controlling lights, alarm, cameras, media centre, Libre office suite applications, browse internet and various other computer tools.

The system is controlled by wireless mouse and keyboard, mobile client keyboard or tablet client keyboard. System has a big internal storage but can be expanded using USB external storage as well as attaching printers and other devices.

CAMERAS

  • 4 Indoor/Outdoor IP cameras with H264/MJPEG support.
  • There is a big variety of cameras available: wired, wireless, indoor and outdoor.
  • Cameras can be viewed and positioned remotely through a Kogmento System.
  • Cameras come preconfigured for a standard network, plug and play.
  • Below are some examples of supported and available cameras.
  • For a bigger selection a camera catalogue is available.

ALARM

Most of the wired house alarms link to the Kogmento System.

Once connected they can be controlled remotely to turning the alarm on and off to the entire property or just different zones within the house.

Alarm is linked to the Kogmento System through an authorized alarm installer.

Alarm can be configured for controlling up to 6 zones and each zone is a defined floor area. This means when going to bed you can activate the alarm to only part of the house for added security and safety. This can be considered as a zone and can be controlled remotely.

Users can turn on or off alarm zones remotely by using wireless mouse and keyboard, mobile client keyboard or tablet client keyboard.

For more information contact our Kogmento representative and we will answer any other questions you might have about more specifics or enquiries.

LIGHTS

Multiple areas with lights can be turned on, off, dimmed or brighten and scheduled task can be set up to automate the process.

This can be useful to the property owner who wants at a pre-set time to turn the specific lights on when coming home after work.

It can also be useful when the owner goes on holiday or leaves the property for an unspecified time and wants to look like someone is at the location for security purposes to discourage thieves from breaking in.

Lights are divided up to 9 areas. Each area represents an address and can be treated as a room, bedroom, hall, kitchen, living room, dining room, outside area such as patio or any other configuration the owner desires.

MOBILE CLIENT

Android mobile client offers control of lights, alarm, cameras and can be used as a remote controller for a media centre or as general purpose system keyboard.

Mobile client communicates with the Kogmento server through an encrypted network. Client supports remote access over the internet so users can sit in the office or be on holiday and still view cameras, control lights and alarm.

Only an authorised client through a main Kogmento System can access their own software which has been uniquely programmed. That means that if someone has the same Kogmento Software on their phone or someone tries to hack the network they are unable to use this application to control your home devices.

Mobile Client offers 4 usable components of the system used for controlling lights, cameras, alarm and media centre.

On-board keyboard of the client app can also be used for Libre Office and while browsing internet or any other application requiring keyboard input.

The application is laid out in portrait mode with big buttons for easier usability.
App will be upgradable for free over the internet through the google play store.

TABLET CLIENT

Android Tablet client offers the same functionality as a mobile client with slightly better user experience

Tablet client communicates with the Kogmento Server through an encrypted network.
Client supports remote access over the internet so users can sit in the office or be on holiday and still view cameras or control lights or alarm.

Only an authorised client through a main Kogmento System can access their own software which has been uniquely programmed.
That means that if someone has the same Kogmento Software on their tablet or someone tries to hack the network they are unable to use this application to control your home devices.

Client has 4 usable components of the system used for controlling lights, cameras, alarm and media centre.

The on-board keyboard of the client app can also be used for Libre Office and while browsing internet or any other application requiring keyboard input.
The application is laid out in landscape mode with big buttons for easier usability.
App will be upgradable for free over the internet through the google play store.

DVR

System can be set up to record up to 4 cameras 24/7 and up to 4 weeks. Internal system storage or USB network storage can be configured as a storage device.

Each video from each source (camera) is stored hourly for the duration of the recordings.

Videos are stored using free and open format WebM.

Best players such as VLC fully support this format. YouTube is running on this format and offers the best free audio/video compression on the market.

DVR videos can be accessed and played using the main client which displays information about the camera source it was taken from and date/time of when it was recorded.

DVR videos can also be accessed directly through a file explorer as individual files just the same way as browsing the files in windows.

MEDIA CENTER

XBMC and MythTV Backend and Frontend are used and configured as a media centre. It offers music, videos, live TV, recording and much more. System is configured for NZ Freeview.

Data such as videos, music, photos can be stored in the internal or external storage.
System and media centre can be controlled by a mobile client, tablet client or peripherals such as a standard wireless keyboard and mouse that comes with the system.

Every LCD, Plasma or LED TV in the house can be linked to the system and used for viewing the content streamed from the Kogmento System.

All the content on every TV is the same per system. In order to have separate viewing (such as separate videos or combination of video and live TV concurrently) two systems are required.

INSTALLATION

We’ll help you get set up and running.
Here’s what we’ll need to do:

  • Installing Kogmento requires some basic wiring around the house.
  • Depending on the type of the IP camera such as wired or wireless simplicity of the installation changes.
  • If wired IP Cameras then network Cat6 cables required, if wireless then just power point for the cameras required.
  • Alarm requires a network Cat6 cable and an authorised alarm technician to wire the alarm with the system.
  • TV’s require network Cat6 cables.
  • Wiring lights requires a certified electrician authorised to install a Kogmento System.
  • Kogmento server can be installed at any location around the property, either as another component with the rest of media, or at another more secure location.
  • Fast local network is required for the best use of the system and all other devices.
  • Kogmento comes with the default Gigabit router and a fast wireless connection.
  • Mobile and tablet clients require a standard wireless network.
  • Kogmento server is then finally configured through the admin setup screen and the system should be ready for use. Installation can be achieved in couple of days.
